Casa de Sierra Nevada, an Orient Express Hotel, has become the standard against which all San Miguel de Allende hotels are measured against. Like many boutique lodgings in the town, the property has been carved out of historic buildings (in this case a series of homes and courtyards from the 16th and 18th century), and every inch of the place has been decorated to reflect this heritage. Each room has a quarry-stone fireplace, high curved ceilings, and white stucco walls, as well as Talavera tiles and copper sinks in the bathrooms. The hotel also runs Sazon, a cooking school that teaches guests the finer points of traditional Mexican cuisine - a fun honeymoon activity. This year, guests will be able to work off some of their education in the new spa and fitness center.
