In the 1990s, Rosa, Duchess of Ferrari, built a white stucco villa on the sands of the Riviera Maya. Today, it’s a sumptuous boutique retreat made for honeymoon couples who prefer to experience the finer things without the pretensions that often come with them. Every whitewashed room has a terrace, a plunge pool, and a solarium. Former guests rave about the food and the spa. The former is served at Sal y Fuego restaurant, where dishes are cooked in banana leaves buried in the ground. The latter happens at the Aroma Spa where treatments are called “rituals” and herbs are plucked fresh from the organic garden.
Why You’ll Love It
The two-mile stretch of beach--all powdery sand and count-your-toes-clear water--may be one of the most breathtaking on the Riviera Maya.
Why She’ll Love It
Because life at Estencia is centered around the Dutchess of  Ferrari’s former mansion, guests often feel less like they’re staying at a hotel and more like they’re staying at the home of a friend. A really, really, rich friend.
