Since opening in 1906, the super-luxe Westin Excelsior has become THE place that diplomats, celebrities and big wigs stay when in Rome.  The design is totally opulent and over the top with Oriental rugs, large mirrors everywhere, crystal chandeliers and tons of flowers. The rooms are equally as fancy, with marble bathrooms, top-of-the-line linens, and large, comfortable beds. Although you probably won’t wind up staying in the hotel’s signature and totally over-the-top Villa Cupola suite (the largest in Europe), you might get some pleasure knowing you’re staying in the hotel that houses it.
Why You’ll Love It
There are a few different places to enjoy a bite or a drink at the Excelsior, so you don’t have to go far to enjoy an unbelievable meal, whether it’s at their sidewalk café tables or the first-class dining room. Their well-known Doney Restaurant serves light Mediterranean food, using fresh pasta, fish and vegetables. There are also a couple of cocktail-ing options as well. There is the ORVM piano bar and the h club where you can lounge and enjoy a drink, or throw back a few and listen to music.
Why She’ll Love It
The super-comfortable Westin Heavenly Bed is reason enough to stay there, but it’s the ornate design and furnishings that she’ll really be into. The hotel also offers an early evening cultural activity called “unwind,” a two-hour opportunity to, for example, sample local wines, learn to decorate cappuccino foam, or learn how to make Westin’s Cobbler cocktail.
